TOO DARN HOT! MUSICAL THEATER REVUE

Join us for Ponderosa Players’ musical theater revue: Too Darn Hot! Escape the heat for a riveting hour of music and talent at the historic Tower Theater. This performance is a culmination of our musical theater revue intensive program, where 15 students have been honing 18 musical numbers throughout the month of July. Don’t miss this complimentary event that promises to captivate audiences of all ages with beloved musical numbers from shows such as Into the Woods, Bye Bye Birdie, and Dear Evan Hansen, along with features from Ponderosa Players’ 2024-25 season: Ride the Cyclone and Guys and Dolls! Two performances only – support our young artists and champion youth theater in Central Oregon!

SHAKESPEARE'S MACBETH

Something wicked this way comes… dive into the madness behind Shakespeare’s infamous tragedy, Macbeth, with Ponderosa Players this summer. Using the text as our guide, students will put together a condensed version of the play while gaining a better understanding of Shakespeare’s language and exploring a host of captivating characters. A perfect class to strengthen your acting while developing new skills.

Step into the spotlight with our Tap Dance for Musical Theater class! Taught by Caldera High School theater teacher, director, and choreographer Lindsay Nickerson. Students will learn and build on foundational tap steps, rhythm, and technique. Perfect for performers hoping to strengthen their triple threat credentials. Tap shoes required.

In musical theater, dance is one of the many ways a character can express themselves. In this class, dancers will learn combinations set to classic musical theater songs and explore characterization through movement. Perfect for actors who want to strengthen their dance skills, or dancers who want to enhance their performance skills.

Unleash your creativity in our 8-week improv class! Students will learn how to think on their feet, collaborate, and express themselves boldly in a supportive environment. This class is a great stepping stone for any growing actor looking to improve their confidence, quick thinking, and teamwork skills, all while having a blast on stage.

WINTER 2024/25
VOICE & MOVEMENT

In this three-class workshop, students will gain an introduction to the Alexander Technique and learn how it can help release tension and free actors from unconscious physical habits. Through this technique students will work on aligning their body, mind and voice to shed physical habits that impede character development.

Build your acting foundation by learning the basics! This class will cover everything an actor needs to know to get started and gain confidence on stage; from how to read a script to making memorable character choices. This class is perfect for actors of all skill and experience levels to come explore, learn, and play.

INTRO TO ACTING
January 6-March 3
SPRING 2025
Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30pm & Saturdays, 1-3pm
Understanding a script is so much more than the characters on the stage. In this class, students will read a pre-selected contemporary play aloud and then analyze each scene to discuss and interpret the playwright’s intentions. Students will then explore how creative decisions - such as acting choices, staging, and design, can serve that interpretation and the overall story.
